Inspiring Leadership Scholarship at Cranfield University, UK 2023/2024

Cranfield University is accepting applications for its partially funded Inspiring Leadership Scholarship.

About Cranfield University and Scholarship

On what was previously the Royal Air Force facility of RAF Cranfield, Cranfield University was established in 1946 as the College of Aeronautics. Roxbee Cox, later Lord Kings Norton, who served as the college’s first governor in 1945 as well as the board’s vice-chair and, starting in 1962, chair, played a significant part in the establishment of the institution. He spearheaded the effort to diversify the institution, which resulted in the founding of the Cranfield University School of Management in 1967. He also petitioned successfully for a royal charter and the authority to grant degrees. He served as the Cranfield Institute of Technology’s first chancellor from 1969 when these were given, until 1997.

In 1969, the Cranfield Institute of Technology was established by royal charter, becoming a full university in its own right with the ability to grant its degrees. The 1963-founded National College of Agricultural Engineering in Silsoe, Bedfordshire, combined with Cranfield in 1975 and became Silsoe College.

In 1984, a collaborative academic relationship was established with Shrivenham’s Royal Military College of Science (RMCS). RMCS, whose origins date back to 1772, is currently a division of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom and has gone by the name “Cranfield Defence and Security” since 2009. With the relocation of undergraduate courses, RMCS became entirely postgraduate in the early 2000s. The institution’s royal charter was modified in 1993, and Cranfield University became the new name. Ten years later, in 2003, Shrivenham accepted its final undergraduates, and Cranfield only welcomed postgraduate students.

Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, officially launched the university’s first international campus in 2007, which is housed in Adelaide’s Torrens Building next to Carnegie Mellon University. In collaboration with regional universities and employing certain remote learning courses, it provided short-term postgraduate degrees in defense management and technology.

The specialized areas of concentration, or Cranfield themes, of Cranfield University, are intended to bring together a variety of academic disciplines to address the major global issues in a variety of industrial and commercial sectors. These include the following: water, agriculture and food, energy and power, aerospace, manufacturing, transportation systems, defense and security, and business/management.

The academic disciplines collaborate closely in the postgraduate setting at Cranfield University, much as they do in business and industry to provide real-world solutions. On the campus of Cranfield University, there are several tennis courts, a sports center with a fitness center, and an aerobics studio, as well as playing grounds and sports fields. Two tiny stores, one operated by the CSA and the other by Budgens, are located on campus.

The Cranfield MBA is a transformative, one-of-a-kind experience for ambitious future leaders who want to push themselves. To recognize future leaders who will go on to inspire others, this scholarship was established.
