Eligibility Criteria for International College of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) Fellowship

Candidates are advised to meet the following prerequisites to be eligible for the International College of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) Fellowship:

  • Individuals who are not citizens of China possess a valid passport and are in decent bodily and mental health
  • Those who have passed the new HSK Level 5 or above, or who can provide documentation that they attended a high school where Chinese is the primary language of teaching, may petition to be excluded from the HSK exam.
  • Immigrants from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and the Chinese mainland who intend to apply as international students must get their current foreign citizenship by April 30, 2020. Furthermore, the candidate must reside overseas for a minimum of two years between April 30, 2020, and April 30, 2024 (a year of residency abroad that exceeds nine months may be counted as one).
  • The requirements outlined in PRC Ministry of Education Document No. 12 (2020) (Annex I) ought to be fulfilled.
  • By July 2024, applicants must have a high school diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma in China.
  • Candidates must be under the age of 30 by September 1st, 2024.

Required Documents

  • The Undergraduate Program Application Form for International Students (Annex II) 
  • A photocopy of the passport, if applicable with the pages containing the Chinese visa or residency permit
  • Official photocopies of transcripts and the senior high school graduation certificate. Pre-graduation certificates from senior high schools are necessary for applicants who will graduate before July 2024 (transcripts and original senior high school graduation certificates must be submitted upon registration if accepted).
  • Copies of the new HSK Level 5 certificate and transcripts (the originals are needed for registration if accepted); or evidence that the student is enrolled in a high school where Chinese is the language of instruction
  • Form for Foreign Medical Examination (Annex III)
  • Senior high school recommendation letter (original copy in Chinese or English)
  • Candidates who will not be 18 by September 1, 2024, must submit a Guardian Statement (Annex IV). For the duration of the applicant’s studies at USTC, the guardian must reside in Hefei. The guardian needs a reliable source of income, regardless of country.
  • The following paperwork must be submitted by immigrants from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and the Chinese mainland who are applying as international students:? Immigration document; Evidence of revoked Chinese nationality originally obtained;? a copy of the passport pages with the entry and exit customs stamps from April 30, 2020, to March 31, 2024;? Evidence of residency abroad from 30 April 2020 to 31 March 2024  
  • Notarized translations into Chinese or English must be appended to documents written in languages other than Chinese or English.
  • Notwithstanding the outcome of the application, the application materials will not be returned.

Application Procedure for International College of the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) Fellowship

  • To apply for a fellowship, candidates must first register for an account on the USTC Application System and choose the desired fellowship.
  • Candidates may submit simultaneous applications for one level or two levels.
  • The comprehensive elevation of the applicant will determine the fellowship level that USTC will award. A single scholarship can only be awarded to each candidate.
