About the University of New England and Scholarship
With campuses in Portland and Biddeford as well as a study abroad site in Tangier, Morocco, the University of New England (UNE) is a private research institution in the state of Maine. The campus-based and online programs of UNE had 7,208 students enrolled for the 2020 academic year. It may be traced back to 1831 when Westbrook Seminary first operated on the site that is now the UNE Portland Campus.
The majority of Maine’s healthcare workers are educated at UNE, which is the state’s biggest private institution. More than 70 undergraduate, graduate, online, and professional degrees are offered through its five institutions, which work together. Although UNE is most known for its programs in the sciences and health sciences, it also offers degrees in a wide range of other fields, including marine sciences, data science, environmental science, mathematics, business, teaching, and the humanities. The sole medical school in Maine is the College of Osteopathic Medicine, while the only dental school in northern New England is its College of Dental Medicine. It is listed as belonging to the category “R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity”.
The Keith and Dorothy Mackay Honours Scholarship is intended to assist academically outstanding University of New England students who, due to personal hardship, would otherwise be unable to complete their Honours Year. These students must be enrolled in their Honours year or will enroll in their Honours year in the following calendar year. The Committee for Higher Degree Research Scholarships bestows the Scholarship. Applications are often invited by Research Services in November of each year, and any awards are typically given out by the end of December. Typically, the scholar will begin using the scholarship within a year of receiving the grant.
