Why do you want to attend Lamar University? First off, Lamar University’s reputation for academic quality fits my educational objectives nicely, especially in disciplines like engineering and business. I also really like the university’s dedication to establishing a varied and inclusive learning environment since I appreciate different viewpoints. Overall, Lamar University is the best location for me to continue my further education because of its outstanding academics, inclusive community, and vibrant campus life.
Public Lamar University, also known as LU, is located in Beaumont, Texas. Since 1995, Lamar has been a part of the Texas State University System. It served as the linchpin of the previous Lamar University System. 17,044 students were enrolled at the institution as of the autumn of 2022. Lamar University, which bears the name of Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas, is recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The university’s main campus is 299+ acres and is located in an urban area. Five undergraduate colleges, one graduate college, and an honors college make up the structure of LU. In its seven academic colleges, Lamar provides 96 undergraduate, 50 master’s, and 8 doctorate programs. The academic colleges are the Reaud Honors College, the College of Engineering, the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Business, the College of Fine Arts and Communication, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Graduate Studies. Lamar is one of only two institutions in the Texas State University System to be designated as a doctoral research university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.
Lamar University invites applicants for its Academic Excellence Awards for International Students who excelled in high school and earned exceptional GPAs. The scholarship will be given for the 2024–2025 school year. The study program seeks to offer financial assistance to foreign students beginning undergraduate or graduate studies at an American university.

Students who participate in the Academic Excellence Award Program will receive $32,000 over four years, with $5,000 each year going toward tuition and the other $2,500 going to on-campus housing at Lamar University.
Eligibility Criteria for Lamar University Academic Excellence Awards
Applicants are advised to meet the following requirements to be eligible for Lamar University Academic Excellence Awards:
- Eligible Nationalities: All countries
- Acceptable Coursework: Undergraduate and Graduate degrees in any of the University’s Subjects
- Admissible Criteria: The candidates must fulfill each of the requirements below to be eligible:
- First-year college freshman (dual credit and AP credit are still allowed) who have a minimum high school GPA* of 3.8 and who rank in the top 25% of their class** are eligible for the program. They can also submit their SAT (1200-1320) or ACT (25-28) test results.
- For consideration, international students must submit their SAT (1200-1320) or ACT (25-28) results.
- Admission Criteria: Before applying for admission, potential students should review the university’s entry requirements.
- Language Requirement: International students applying for undergraduate or graduate programs must demonstrate their fluency in the English language by providing TOEFL or IELTS test results.
Documents Required
The following official transcripts must be submitted, and they must show:
- The awarded bachelor’s or master’s degree from a US school with regional accreditation, or its equivalent, is necessary for the proposed program.
- The most recent attendance at a different university than where the degree was awarded. No matter how long a student has been present or whether credit has been earned or is requested, this requirement still stands.
