University of Strathclyde Law Postgraduate Community Bursary, UK 2023/2024

The University of Strathclyde is accepting applications for its partially funded Law Postgraduate Community Bursary.

About the University of Strathclyde and Bursary

The University of Glasgow, with its rich history and evolution, has its origins dating back to 1796 through the visionary will of John Anderson, who was a professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow. He bequeathed his estate to establish a second university in Glasgow with a unique focus on “Useful Learning.” The institution dedicated to useful and practical learning was established to advance scientific knowledge and benefit mankind through the emphasis on practical subjects and education.

To realize John Anderson’s dream of having two universities in the city of Glasgow, the institution originally took the name “Anderson’s University” in 1828. However, because it lacked the legal right to use the word “university,” it had to modify its nomenclature in 1887. In light of this, the organization changed its name to the “Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College.”

It then carried on developing and expanding, eventually changing its name to the “Royal Technical College” in 1912. This change emphasized the school’s focus on scientific and engineering research and instruction. This rich history and legacy have played a significant role in shaping the University of Glasgow into the renowned institution it is today, known for its contributions to various academic disciplines and fields of study.
