About Newcastle University and Scholarship

Newcastle University, officially known as the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, stands as a prominent public research institution situated in the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England. With a global footprint, the university has extended its reach through overseas campuses in Singapore and Malaysia. It proudly holds the status of a red-brick university and is a distinguished member of the Russell Group, an association comprising the UK’s leading research-intensive universities.

The university traces its roots back to the School of Medicine and Surgery, established in 1834, and the College of Physical Science, founded in 1871 and later renamed Armstrong College. These foundational institutions, along with the Durham Colleges, collectively became part of the federal University of Durham. Notably, in 1937, the Newcastle colleges amalgamated to form King’s College. A transformative moment occurred in 1963 when, through an Act of Parliament, King’s College evolved into the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
