About Simmons University and Scholarship

Boston, Massachusetts’s Simmons University, formerly known as Simmons College, is a private institution. Clothing producer John Simmons founded it in 1899. It underwent a name change to university in 2018 along with organizational restructuring. Women are the primary emphasis of its undergraduate program, but coeducation is offered in its graduate degrees.

Accreditation for Simmons comes from the New England Commission of Higher Education. In 2020, 83 percent of those applying to undergraduate programs were granted admission. Encompassing a total area of 12 acres (4.9 hectares), the institution is split into two campuses inside the Fenway-Kenmore district, one with five academic buildings and the other nine residential buildings designed in the Georgian style. The institution has about 1,736 undergraduate and 4,527 graduate students enrolled. Under the Sharks moniker, its sports teams participate in NCAA Division III.

Eligibility Criteria for the Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award

Applicants are advised to meet the following conditions to be qualified for the Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award:

  • A GPA of at least 3.50
  • A history of completing AP, IB, or college readiness courses
  • For non-native English speakers, proficiency in the language is mandatory.
  • SAT or ACT scores on standardized tests (optional) of 1300+ or 28+

  • Enthusiasm for the Subject: Candidates ought to have a strong enthusiasm for the subject matter they have selected. Their career, extracurricular activities, and academic accomplishments should all demonstrate this enthusiasm.

Essay Prompt

Formal Essay (limit word count 300–500): Write a paper explaining your leadership style, including specific examples to show the variety of events that have influenced it and describing the kind of leader you want to be at Simmons. Application Procedure for Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award

The application consists of a CV with activities and involvements listed and a formal essay written in response to the topic below.
