United States Institute of Peace (USIP) Peace Scholar Fellowship Program, USA 2023

Application is now open for the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) Peace Scholar Fellowship Program. Interested applicants are encouraged to send their applications in before the deadline date.

About the United States Institute of Peace(USIP) and Fellowship

The promotion of conflict prevention and resolution internationally is the responsibility of the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), an American federal organization. It offers people training in diplomacy, mediation, and other peace-building techniques as well as research, analysis, and training. A national “peace academy” had been proposed for years before the USIP was created in 1984 as a result of Congressional legislation that President Ronald Reagan had signed into law.

Ph.D. students enrolled in U.S. institutions who are writing doctorate dissertations on subjects relevant to conflict management, peacebuilding, and security studies are given non-residential fellowships under the USIP’s Peace Scholar Fellowship program. 408 academics have had their dissertations sponsored by the program since 1988, and many of them have gone on to significant careers in research, higher education, and policymaking.

Additional fellowships are supported through this program’s collaboration with the Minerva Research Initiative. Up to 18 fellowships may now be awarded each year through the program. These fellowships help fund both the research and writing phases of dissertation study.

They especially welcome applications from people who belong to racial and ethnic groups that have historically been underrepresented in fields like international relations, security studies, peace and conflict studies, and other relevant fields of study.
