About the University of Surrey and Scholarship
The University of Surrey, a distinguished public research university situated in Guildford, Surrey, England, has a rich history and a commitment to academic excellence. Established in 1966, the university received its royal charter as part of a wave of institutions following the recommendations outlined in the Robbins Report. Its journey began with Battersea College of Technology, formerly located in Battersea Park, London, and rooted in the Battersea Polytechnic Institute founded in 1891.
Originally designed to provide further and higher education in London, including for its less privileged residents, the University of Surrey has evolved into a prominent institution with a global outlook. As a testament to its commitment to international collaboration, it is a member of the Association of MBAs and part of the University Global Partnership Network. Additionally, it collaborates with the University of Bath, the University of Bristol, the University of Southampton, and the University of Exeter through the SETsquared partnership.
The university’s main campus, situated on Stag Hill near the center of Guildford and adjacent to Guildford Cathedral, serves as a hub for academic pursuits. The Surrey Sports Park, located at the nearby Manor Park, acts as the secondary campus. In terms of academic standing, the University of Surrey consistently ranks in the top 60 among UK universities, earning the 39th position in The Times and Sunday Times, the 34th in The Good University Guide and the Complete University Guide, and the 54th in The Guardian University Guide for 2021.
The university’s commitment to excellence extends beyond national borders, with international rankings steadily improving over the past five years. Notably, subjects such as Hospitality and Leisure Management and Petroleum Engineering have secured positions in the top 20. In the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2018, the University of Surrey achieved an impressive seventh place.
In recognition of the importance of fostering diversity and leadership in business, the university offers the Women in Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship is open to female candidates who can demonstrate their significant contributions to the business field and a commitment to supporting other female candidates in the future. Awarding partial scholarships covering 10–50% of the tuition fee, the University of Surrey encourages early applications, prioritizing candidates who apply during the admissions round. Importantly, neither the scholarship nor the program incurs application fees, aligning with the university’s dedication to accessibility and inclusivity in higher education.
