The University of York, also known as Ebor or York for post-nominals, is a collegiate research university located in the city of York, England. It was founded in 1963 and has since grown to contain over thirty departments and research centers, offering a diverse array of academic disciplines.
Situated in the southeastern part of the city of York, the university’s campus covers approximately 500 acres (200 hectares). In 2007, the university received approval to extend its main campus onto arable land east of the village of Heslington, resulting in the creation of Campus East. In 2012, York University became a member of the Russell Group, an association of research-intensive British universities.
