Application is now open for the Elevate: Boosting Women in STEM Scholarship at Edith Cowan University. Interested applicants are encouraged to send their applications in before the deadline date.

About Edith Cowan University (ECU)

Western Australia’s Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a public university. It is the only university in Australia to bear the name of a woman, Edith Cowan, who was the first to be elected to the Australian parliament. It was created through a merger of tertiary institutions that had histories dating back to 1902, when the Claremont Teachers College was founded, earning it university status in 1991. As such, it is the current descendant of the first higher institution in Western Australia.

In addition to its 200 km (120 mi) south of Perth regional campus in Bunbury and its two metropolitan campuses in Joondalup and Mount Lawley, the university offers more than 300 courses, many of which may be taken online. The university also collaborates with several other educational institutions to provide courses and programs abroad. Over 31,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including over 7,000 international students, were enrolled at the institution in 2020.

ECU was ranked in the top three Australian institutions for teaching quality, skill development, student support, student-to-teacher ratio, learning resources, and overall experience in the 2022 Good Institutions Guide. Additionally, it was one of only two national colleges to obtain a 15-year continuous 5-star rating for teaching excellence. In addition, the institution belongs to the International Association of Law Schools, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and the International Cyber Security Center of Excellence.

With the help of the Elevate: Boosting Women in STEM initiative of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences & Engineering, up to 500 women in STEM will receive undergraduate and graduate scholarships. The Elevate Program intends to address gender disparities in STEM by encouraging greater industry-academia cooperation in applied research and business, enhancing the professional capabilities of women in STEM, and advancing women into leadership positions.
