A public research university located in Essex, England called the University of Essex was one of the first plate glass institutions, founded by royal license in 1965. The motto, “Thought the harder, heart the keener,” is taken from the Anglo-Saxon epic The Battle of Maldon, and the university shield is made out of the historic arms that are assigned to the Kingdom of Essex.
The Central Asia and Caucasus Undergraduate Scholarship program is intended for foreign students wishing to enroll in the University of Essex’s first year who are from the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Yugoslavia. A reduction in your tuition expenses is provided by the grant. You may qualify for a scholarship if you’re an international student from one of the aforementioned nations paying for your education.

Eligibility Criteria for Central Asia and Caucasus Undergraduate Scholarship
Candidates are advised to meet the following conditions to be eligible for the Central Asia and Caucasus Undergraduate Scholarship at the University of Essex:
- Only international students who pay tuition fees on their own are eligible for these awards.
- Students must be citizens of one of the aforementioned nations and be regularly residing there (for a definition of regularly residing, see below).
- In October 2024–25, students must register for the University of Essex’s first year (Year 1) of a full-time undergraduate degree**.
- By July 12, 2024, UCAS candidates must proactively declare Essex as their firm option. Candidates who join Essex after being rejected by another business that was their first choice are ineligible. By July 12, 2024, Direct Applicants must accept their offer.****
- The award cannot be combined with any other University of Essex financial aid.
- This scholarship is exclusively available for undergraduate students in their first year of study (Year 1) in 2024–2025.
- Those that are accepted should be available for promotional events.
*Students who are given a repayable loan to cover their educational expenses will be regarded as self-funded.
**Programs that culminate in the four-year Diploma in Higher Education, Bachelor’s Degree, or Integrated Masters degree
Students who are not qualified
Even if they fulfill the requirements above, the following students are not eligible for this scholarship:
- Students enrolled in East 15 Acting School classes.
- Students on the Pathway at the University of Essex International College (UEIC).
- Students pursuing a degree program that is often offered exclusively online
- Students who do not typically dwell in any of the above nations
- For postponed entrance, this scholarship grant is not applicable. A scholarship will be revoked and the application will be reevaluated by the terms and circumstances that apply in the new suggested year of admission if it has been granted to a student who later postpones enrollment to the next academic year.
- Those starting their third and second years of study.
- Students who pay the home tuition are evaluated.
- Those current students whose first year at the University of Essex was completed before the 2024–2025 academic year.
What is “Ordinary Residence”?
You must have been a regular resident of one of the specified countries for the three years previous to starting your degree for the scholarship to be evaluated. To be considered an “ordinary resident,” one must have regularly, ordinarily, and legally resided in one of the listed nations for the specified amount of time.
For courses beginning in October 2024, the three-year duration is computed as follows: 1 September 2021 to 1 September 2024. During these three years, temporary absences could be allowed, depending on the appropriate University officer’s decision. The Head of Admissions or their designee will typically make the ultimate determination on whether a student satisfies the usual residency requirements, and they may ask students to submit documentation to support their claims.
Application Process for Central Asia and Caucasus Undergraduate Scholarship
You will be given this award automatically if you fulfill all the requirements for qualifying. You don’t need to fill out an application. Based on the information you provide on your application for a spot at Essex, the University will determine your eligibility based on your country of residence and fee status.
