The Discover Life Sciences Scholarship is available to overseas students who want to study biological sciences at the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom. A portion of the tuition fees are waived as part of the scholarship. Your Offer Letter will confirm your fee status, and we won’t be able to certify your scholarship eligibility until you’ve accepted their offer to study there.
About the University of Dundee
Scotland’s Dundee is home to the public research institution known as the University of Dundee. With a gift from the illustrious Baxter family of textile manufacturers, it was established as a university institution in 1881. For the majority of its early years, the organization shared space in the St Andrews town center with United College and St Mary’s College, two constituent colleges of the University of St Andrews. In 1967, the University of Dundee received a royal charter granting it autonomous university status after undergoing tremendous growth while keeping some of its old traditions and organizational structure.
The Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee Law School, and Dundee Dental Hospital and School are among the various teaching and research facilities that are housed on the university’s main campus, which is in Dundee’s West End. The university also maintains buildings at Kirkcaldy, Fife, which contains a portion of its School of Nursing and health sciences, Ninewells Hospital, which has a clinical research center, and Perth Royal Infirmary. With an expenditure of £344.8 million, the institution’s annual income for 2021–2022 was £291.5 million, of which £71.8 million came from grants and contracts for research.
The University of St Andrews and the previous Dundee-based university college serve as the foundation for the University of Dundee.
The desire for the formation of a university in Dundee throughout the 19th century greatly expanded due to the city’s expanding population, and many organizations, like the city’s University Club, were founded to support this cause. There was a substantial push either transferring the entire university to Dundee (which the royal commission noted was now a “large and increasing town”) or toward the construction of a college very much along the lines of the current United College. Finally, it was decided that expanding the sciences and professions at St. Andrews was more important than focusing on the arts.
According to the four most important international rankings as of 2018, Dundee is in the top 300 universities in the world, coming in at number 42 in the CWTS Leiden Ranking, equal 272nd in the QS World University Rankings, and 201–300th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Eligibility for Discover Life Sciences Scholarship
You must fulfill each requirement listed below to be eligible for the Discover Life Sciences Scholarship:
- You must comply with the University of Dundee’s international fee policy.
- have been given a scholarship to enroll in an approved undergraduate program at the School of Life Sciences
- In the academic year 2023–2024, start your studies.
The Discover Life Sciences Scholarship may be coupled with any of the following scholarships, as long as both are permissible:
- Global Citizenship or
- Global Excellence or
- Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships (one region only)
Where applicable, this scholarship may also be used in conjunction with:
- Alumni
- Alumni Family
Applicants at International College Dundee are eligible to obtain this grant in addition to one of the following three scholarships:
- Vice Chancellor’s Regional Scholarship
- Global Citizenship Scholarship
- International College Dundee Progressing with Excellence Scholarship
