About Durham University and Scholarship

In Durham, England, Durham University (officially the University of Durham) is a coeducational public research university that was established in 1832 by an act of parliament and incorporated in 1837 by royal charter. After Oxford and Cambridge, it was the first recognized university to open in England in more than 600 years, making it, according to accepted historical tradition, England’s third-oldest institution. As a collegiate university, its primary duties are split between the institution’s academic departments and its 17 colleges. In general, colleges are in charge of students’ living conditions and welfare whereas departments are in charge of research and teaching.

The institution is a part of the Russell Group of British research universities and has affiliations with the Matariki Network of Universities, the Coimbra Group, the regional N8 Research Partnership, and other international university organizations. The university’s grounds have 83 listed structures, from the brutalist students’ union from the 1960s to Durham Castle from the 11th century. Together with Durham Cathedral, the university also owns and operates the Durham World Heritage Site. Durham Castle, Palace Green, and the adjacent structures, notably the iconic Cosin’s Library, are all owned by the university.

The school is excited to announce a new Dean’s Scholarship across the faculties of arts and humanities or social sciences and health to help highly qualified home fee-paying students who wish to enroll in a postgraduate taught master’s program in the academic year 2023–2024. Except for the PGCE programs and the Master of Social Work, the majority of taught master’s programs in the faculties of arts and humanities and of social sciences & health are eligible for consideration.
