About Cranfield University and Scholarship

At the time, the Royal Air Force’s RAF Cranfield installation was home to the College of Aeronautics, which later became Cranfield University. Roxbee Cox, afterward Lord Kings Norton, who was chosen to be the college’s first governor in 1945 and subsequently served as vice-chair and then head of the board (beginning in 1962), played a significant part in the establishment of the institution.

In 1967, the Cranfield University School of Management was founded as a result of his leadership in the college’s desire to diversify. He also petitioned successfully for a royal charter and the authority to grant degrees. He was appointed the Cranfield Institute of Technology’s first chancellor in 1969 when these were awarded, a position he held until 1997.

The institution’s royal charter was modified in 1993, renaming it Cranfield University. Shrivenham location last enrolled undergraduates in 2003, ten years after Cranfield became entirely postgraduate.

Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, inaugurated the institution’s first overseas campus in 2007, which is housed with Carnegie Mellon University at Adelaide’s Torrens Building. With the assistance of some online learning courses and partnerships with regional universities, it provided short-term postgraduate degrees in defense management and technology.

However, South Australia’s “defense boom” did not materialize, and the school closed in 2010 as a result of its inability to draw enough students. In 2009, Cranfield’s main campus served as the new location for Silsoe College’s operations. Cranfield University is not included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, The Times World Rankings, The Complete University Guide, or The Guardian since it only offers postgraduate programs; these rankings are intended to assist prospective undergraduate students in comparing universities.
