Sexuality and Gender in the Commonwealth Mid-career professionals from low- and middle-income Commonwealth nations can apply for fellowships to spend time working in their industry at a host organization in the UK as part of a professional development program. to provide professionals the chance to improve their knowledge and abilities in their specific industries and to have a catalytic impact on their workplaces.

Benefits:

Each Fellowship provides:

  • Approved round-trip flight tickets from the Fellow’s country to the UK
  • The regular visa application cost is reimbursed.
  • Stipend (living allowance) payable every month (or on a pro-rata basis) for the term of the award at a rate of £1,944 per month or £2,397 per month for people working for organizations in the London metropolitan area (rates given in 2021/22 levels).
  • The CSC will give a complete assessment of requirements and eligibility for additional financial help if a Fellow registers a disability. 
  • Up to £1,061.10 in arrival allowance (rates based on 2021/22 levels), including a portion for warm clothes
  • For the Gender and Sexuality program, host organizations will administer a £1,000 travel grant per fellow to help with participation at events.
  • The host organizations may agree to a maximum of £3,000 per fellow for short courses, conferences, travel to other UK organizations when this is an essential component of the program and other expenses. The constraints listed in the guideline on claimable expenses should be kept in mind by hosting organizations.

Eligibility Criteria for Commonwealth Gender and Sexuality Fellowships

Applicants are advised to meet the following conditions to be eligible for the Commonwealth Gender and Sexuality Fellowships:

  • Being a citizen of, or having received refugee status from, a Commonwealth nation that qualifies, or being a British Protected Person.
  • Becoming a permanent resident of a Commonwealth nation
  • Have at least five years of relevant work experience, either full-time or comparable part-time, in a field linked to the fellowship program by the anticipated commencement of the fellowship. Volunteer work experience does not count toward this minimum.
  • Be employed at the time of application at a company where they will resume their position after completing the fellowship.
  • A minimum of two references must be given, one of which must come from the applicant’s employment. Applications will be deemed invalid if references are not submitted by the reference closing date.
  • Not have completed a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship during the previous five years (at the time of accepting the award).
  • Not intend to pursue a research or study program at the academic level. Academics can apply for the program, but they can only do academic management programs; they cannot do research or enroll in courses related to their research area.
  • Be available to start their fellowship during the whole timeframe of the specified dates.

Required Documents:

Give a four-part development impact statement.

  • (No more than 200 words) Describe how taking part in the fellowship of your choice relates to:
  1. The UN’s “leave no one behind” policy relates to promoting the rights, freedoms, dignity, and inclusion of communities that are subjected to discrimination due to their gender identity or sexual orientation.
  2. development issues at the international, national, and local levels 
  3. development challenges related to the topic of human rights of individuals and groups that experience prejudice or criminalization as a result of their gender identity or sexual orientation and the broader field
  • Section 2 (maximum 100 words) Describe how you plan to use your newly acquired talents when your Fellowship has ended.
  • Section 3 (maximum 250 words) Describe how you anticipate the development landscape will alter as a result of your fellowship, mentioning:
    • the results you hope to attain
    • the timing of their execution
    • who will benefit from them?
  • (Maximum of 100 words) Write about the best way to assess the impact of your effort.
  • Verify the goals of your grant and how the fellowship program will help to achieve each one.
  • Verify your two-year goals and how the fellowship program will help you achieve each of them.
  • Verify your long-term goals and how the fellowship program will help you achieve each one.
  • In your statement, briefly describe how your background has motivated you to wish to have an effect in your place of origin. You should highlight how you have already made a difference, such as how you overcame obstacles in your personal or professional life (maximum of 500 words).
  • Describe your involvement in volunteer activities and the chances you’ve had to show leadership in no more than 500 words.
  • Scan your passport or national identification card and submit it.

Application Process for Commonwealth Gender and Sexuality Fellowships

You must fill out the online application form to apply for the Commonwealth Gender and Sexuality Fellowships program. 

Applicants for the Fellowship will be required to:

  • A list of all undergraduate and graduate degrees should be included, if appropriate.
  • List up to ten publications and awards (if any)
  • Describe your past career in detail and, in no more than 100 words per job, discuss how each position relates to the program you want to pursue in the UK.
  • Write a 300-word statement describing how your prior work experience relates to the proposed fellowship.
  • List the names and positions of up to three references who are competent to remark on both your potential to profit from your planned fellowship in the UK and your capability to make a difference in development afterward. Your employer today must be one of your referees.
