About the University of Queensland and Scholarship
The University of Queensland is divided into divisions for academic, administrative, and logistical reasons. The university’s senior academic advisory body is the academic board. It develops policies on academic issues such as new programs, instruction, evaluation, and learning, as well as research, job advancement, student academic issues, awards, and scholarships. Each year, a member of the academic board is chosen to serve as president. A deputy president serves as the president’s assistant part-time.
The university maintains a variety of multidisciplinary research institutes and centers at the national, state, and university levels in addition to disciplinary-focused teaching and research within the academic faculties. For instance, the Institute of Modern Languages, the University of Queensland Seismology Station, the Asia-Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect, and Heron Island Research Station.
The Madeleine Olive Taylor Estate left a legacy to support the Madeleine Taylor Scholarship, which was started in 2011 and is still in operation today. The scholarship’s goal is to encourage research in anthropology and sociology related to women’s studies.

Eligibility Madeleine Taylor Scholarship
Applicants are advised to meet the following conditions to be eligible for the Madeleine Taylor Scholarship at the University of Queensland:
- Candidates for a Higher Degree by Research or postgraduate coursework students who do women’s studies research in the disciplines of sociology or anthropology are eligible for the scholarship.
- Candidates for the HDR must have completed their Progress Review 1. Students enrolled in postgraduate coursework must have finished their first semester of study to qualify.
Selection Criteria
The Madeleine Taylor Scholarship is given to the applicant who submits the strongest application, taking into account the following factors:
- Academic achievement and potential for success;
- The applicant’s research’s relevance to women’s studies
- The importance and relevance of the scholarship’s proposed use to the applicant’s research
- Any other factors the selection committee deems appropriate.
On the advice of the Head of Social Science, the Dean of the Graduate School will choose a scholar.

Rules
The rules and conditions of the Schedule A Postgraduate Research Scholarships apply to this Philanthropic HDR scholarship. All beneficiaries of charitable scholarships are required to abide by the terms of the UQ research and travel scholarships, including the reporting and progress guidelines as well as the most recent HDR travel guidance.
These philanthropic scholarship recipients are required to mention the awards in any publication that is published as a consequence of the study that was carried out when they were recipients of the fellowship.
The scholarship winner may also be asked by the donor to present or report on the work completed as part of the award; in this instance, they must abide by the request or risk losing the scholarship. The data you submit with your application is gathered for three purposes: (1) determining your eligibility for the scholarship, (2) choosing the beneficiaries, and (3) managing the award. The information you give the Donor may be disclosed by the University of Queensland to accomplish the objectives specified. Except as authorized or required by law, the University will not otherwise share the information with a third party without your approval.
