Application is now open for the Research Chairs And Senior Research Fellowships at the Royal Academy Of Engineering. Interested applicants are encouraged to send their applications in before the deadline date.

About Royal Academy of Engineering and Fellowship

The Royal Academy of Engineering is devoted to diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all groups that are underrepresented in the engineering field. It is the policy of the Academy to make sure that no candidate is disfavored or given less favorable treatment due to their age, handicap, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or motherhood, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. The Academy wants to help you strike a balance between your obligations at home and work. They are open to discussing unique needs and taking into account part-time and other flexible work schedules.

This program strives to improve ties between business and academics. The program provides financial assistance to outstanding academics at UK universities and colleges so they may do research that is motivated by practical requirements and addresses those needs. Over the last 35 years, the Research Chairs and Senior Fellowships program of the Academy has successfully supported over 200 academic appointments and improved globally recognized centers of excellence. This program is funded by the UK Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT).

Interview Date, and Process for Research Chairs And Senior Research Fellowships

Applicants Selection

Stage 1: Expert review

A minimum of three expert evaluations (often Academy Fellows) will evaluate the whole application. The overall quality of the application, a score against each of the following evaluation criteria, and a recommendation on whether to move further with an interview are all provided by expert reviewers.

  • Applicant’s abilities
  • The effectiveness of the joint research program
  • Efficacy of the strategic alliance
  • Participants and effects
  • Accounting for the proposal’s costs

Sift panel:

The Academy staff will compile the comments and ratings from each reviewer into a summary table and rank the applications according to both the overall score and the Yes/No recommendations. These are given to the sift panel, which will then decide which applicants will move on to the interview stage. Those candidates who were not selected for an interview will be notified of this choice as soon as feasible after the screening panel’s choice.

Stage 2: Interview

A generalist panel made up of at least three Academy Fellows will conduct the interview. It will take each interview roughly 50 minutes. The panelists will offer their opinions about the evaluation standards listed above. At the interview, the order in which applicants were ranked during the previous sift panels won’t matter. All interview applicants are given the same weight. The panel will assess the applications after the interviews and choose the top-ranked candidates for rewards. The Reviewer Guidance for Research Chairs and Senior Research Fellowships provides comprehensive information on the application procedure.
