The University of Birmingham DeepMind Scholarship for Postgraduate Students in the UK for 2023/2024

The University of Birmingham DeepMind Scholarship will help gifted students take the next step toward realizing their career aspirations in some of the most cutting-edge and sought-after fields of business and academia. Six scholarships, generously funded by DeepMind and open to applicants who currently hold an unconditional or conditional offer for the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, have been announced by the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham.

Benefits of the University of Birmingham DeepMind Scholarship

Six scholarships are now available, three of which are from the UK and three from abroad.

The three eligible UK scholarships are each worth £34,225. The scholarship’s value is applied against:

  • UK tuition costs are £10,980.
  • A maintenance allowance of £19,345 was paid during the program (to be used for living expenses).
  • During the course, students may receive up to £2,200 in funding to attend an international conference in the fields of AI and/or machine learning, as well as £1,700 to help cover the cost of necessary equipment (such as a suitable laptop).

The total value of the three available international scholarships is £52,565. The scholarship’s value is applied against:

  • £27,540 in international tuition costs
  • A maintenance allowance of £19,345 was paid during the program (to be used for living expenses).
  • During the course, students may receive up to £2,200 in funding to attend an international conference in the fields of AI and/or machine learning, as well as £1,700 to help pay for necessary equipment (such as a suitable laptop).
  • £1,870 to aid with relocation expenses

Eligibility for University of Birmingham DeepMind Scholarship Qualification

Those who are interested in applying for the University of Birmingham DeepMind Scholarship should fit one OR both of the following requirements:

  • Identify as female OR as a member of a Black ethnicity, such as Black African, Black Caribbean, or another Black group.

Students must also:

  • being able to prove (if necessary) that they couldn’t accept the admission offer without financial aid.
  • have already been offered a conditional or unconditional spot in the University of Birmingham’s MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program.
  • being considered a UK resident to pay fees OR 
  • being considered an overseas student to pay fees.

Application Procedure

University of Birmingham DeepMind Scholarships Applications are only available to MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning offer holders.

Process and deadline for international applicants:

  • You will receive an email with a direct application link to apply for the DeepMind scholarship once you have accepted an offer from our central admissions office. This email will also be sent to you if you currently hold an offer. Please be aware that there are three official stages in the admissions process for overseas applicants for the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
  • The last day to submit a scholarship application is June 4, 2023.
  • The first two weeks of June 2023 will see the shortlisting of applications and the contact of qualified applicants for interviews. Offer holders will be informed directly of additional information regarding the procedure.

UK candidate process and deadline:

  • You will receive an email with a direct application link to apply for the DeepMind scholarship once you have accepted an offer from our central admissions office. This email will also be sent to you if you already have an offer.
  • The 23rd of July 2023 will mark the last day to submit a scholarship application.
  • By the end of July 2023, applications will be evaluated for selection, and qualified applicants will be contacted for interviews. Offer holders will be informed directly of additional information regarding the procedure.
