About the University of Huddersfield and Scholarship

The University of Huddersfield, sometimes known as Huddersfield University, is an English public research university that is located in the West Yorkshire town of Huddersfield. Although it became a university in 1992, it began as several different institutions in the 19th century. Its efforts have placed a special emphasis on teaching quality, and in 2017 it won the first Higher Education Academy Global Teaching Excellence Award and received a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold Award. It has continuously been among the top institutions in England for the percentage of staff members who hold teaching credentials, and in 2022 it held the top spot with 94%.

The University has also increased its emphasis on the caliber of its research, and as of 2022, more than three-quarters of its academic staff members have doctorates, which places them third in England. Leading applied research teams in the biological sciences, engineering, physical sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities are housed within the institution. In recent years, it has doubled both its postgraduate research and its research income.

It moved up to position 68 in the UK Research Power league table from position 97 in the 2008 REF. In comparison to prior cycles, 262 University of Huddersfield academics entered, and 15% more world-class research was submitted.

By providing 589 academic personnel, the university was able to improve upon its performance in the 2021 REF. When research power’ is measured, it is now ranked in the top third of all UK universities. The institution is also home to the MIAMI facilities, a top-notch facility for research in the energy and materials sciences.

In the 2015–16 QS World University Rankings, it had a ranking of 701+. At the 2012 THE Awards, the university was named the Entrepreneurial University of the Year. The Outstanding Registry Team 2013 award was given to it at the 2013 THE Leadership and Management Awards. At the 2013 THE Awards, the university was named University of the Year.
